VFR800 surging tickover. It is with some trepidation I post a bike related plea on this site, but here goes as I'm sure the principles are the same. Honda VFR800, 2000 model, 18,000 miles suddenly develops tickover of 2,500RPM (should be @1300), surging every now and then to over 3,000. Only modification is a Micron race can, been on for 10 My CR Always shows on display more fuel consumption compare if i make the maths manually or using the app fuelly, the difference is usually 0.4L/100 but it can go from 0.6 to 0.2, and it always show more fuel spent. My average is between 4.8L /100 to 7.1 (per tank).

It has been 30 years since the VFR750 introduced the engine and while they may have added fuel injection, a proper ECU and some variable valve jiggery pokery, the world has moved on. Personally, I have been riding Honda VFR-engined bikes for the last 15 years and the quality, reliability and V4 burble easily make up for the below par fuel economy.
PA & Brooklyn, NY. Map. I consistantly get 210-220 mile for 4.5 gallon fill-up.. on my 2000 VFR800. The worst I got was 170 mile for 4.6 gallon, best was 256 for 4.96 gallon. VFR800 has been one of the easiest bike when it comes to maintenance, the regular stuff like oil/filter change, chain lube are easily done.
