The DT990 is almost the opposite of the HD600. It is a v-shape, which means emphasized highs and lows, with recessed mids. Not my cup of tea as a main pair, but fun for other genres (and gaming, but I’ll get to that later). The bass hits hard and is great for edm or rock, but it isn’t overwhelming. The harsh treble is there, and it does get

Perhaps the AKG K501 (old but really good), K612 Pro et al. The Beyers have a voluptuous bass that muffles the mids especially in fast music. The DT 990 Pro also has a very peaky treble below 10KHz which is very noticeable and annoying while the DT 770 has a boomy bass and a bright treble too. 99dB/mW. 96dB/mW. Devices with a higher sound pressure level are generally louder when supplied with any given audio source. has a neodymium magnet. Audio-Technica ATH-M50. Beyerdynamic DT 990 Pro. Devices with neodymium magnets are lighter and more powerful than those which use ferrite magnets. The Beyerdynamic DT 990 PRO X has a somewhat odd flavor of studio frequency response with how it emphasizes the 50-300Hz and 2kHz-20kHz ranges. If that’s an issue for you, you’ll want to look elsewhere or take the time to EQ your sound. However, this kind of response is really appealing to two demographics: gamers and mixers.
I never tried the DT-990's but wound up buying DT-880's after trying the DT-770's and a couple of AudioTechnica's (i don't remember which ones). The DT-880's like the other poster said seemed the most balanced. I've been quite pleased. The DT-770's has a bass bump and were fun to listen to but I couldn't trust them for checking my mixes.
The Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro 32 ohm is one of the larger pairs of headphones on the market and does not fold up at all. It is much better suited to living on a deck or next to a guitar than traveling. The Beyerdynamic DT 770 does not fold up at all, necessitating a very large carrying case. Credit: Max Mutter. Sound wise though, like u/AMindOfMetalAndFeels mentioned, one is closed back, the other is open, and the driver types are totally different, so it's a hard comparison to make. The DT990 will probably sound overall better but it's hard to say, I personally LOVE the sound planars produce, but it's not for everyone. Excellent-Expert-927. 2x8k.
